Ball Park Music

Ball Park Music is Sam Cromack (lead vocals & guitar), Jen Boyce (bass guitar/backing vocals), Dean Hanson (guitar/backing vocals), Paul Furness (keys/trombone) and Daniel Hanson (drums).

The quintet met while studying music at QUT; a path chosen because they lacked the skills to pursue law or medicine or engineering. Since the release of their debut album in 2011, the band has quickly cemented their reputation as purveyors of indie hits and one of Australia’s most dynamic live acts.

From the early days of their career, Ball Park Music has had strong support from national tastemaker radio station triple j. The band was ‘Unearthed’ by triple j in 2010 and featured in their ‘Next Crop’ list as one of the “hottest acts to watch in 2011”.

The band’s debut album ‘Happiness And Surrounding Suburbs’ debuted at #36 in the Australian ARIA Charts and secured not less than six high rotation singles at triple j. BPM were also named ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’ at triple j’s J Awards in 2011, ‘Happiness And Surrounding Suburbs’ was voted #10 in the triple j listener’s Album Poll and music publication The AU Review voted it #2 for 2011. The debut album also featured two songs in the 2011 triple j ‘Hottest 100’ countdown.

In 2012, BPM released their sophomore album ‘Museum’ in just 12 months after the release of their debut. ‘Museum’ secured triple j Album of the Week and debuted at #9 on the ARIA Charts. BPM kick started the album release with single ‘Surrender’, which went on to be triple j’s most played track in July 2012. Other album achievements included a place in the top 4 in Channel [V] OZ Artist of the Year 2012 Awards, nomination for triple j Album of the Year 2012, #5 in the triple j listener’s Album Poll, and a shortlist contender for the Australian Music Prize (AMP) Award.

BPM started gaining international attention in 2013. The band was handpicked by Weezer to be their Australian arena support act. Singles ‘All I Want Is You’ and ‘Surrender’ were added to influential Dutch radio station 3FM, with ‘All I Want Is You’ being the 10th most played track on the station. Even actor Daniel Radcliffe listed BPM as one of his top bands in an interview with The Guardian. The end of 2013 also saw the band undertake their first international tour, which included performances at CMJ Music Festival in New York USA, a sold-out London show, and successful performances throughout the Netherlands.

Ball Park Music kick-started 2014 by announcing Puddinghead – their third album in three calendar years. The lead single ‘She Only Loves Me When I’m There’ was added to high rotation on triple j and became the most played song on the station. The full album was then released in April 2014, skyrocketing to #1 on the iTunes albums chart and #2 on the ARIA Charts – coming second to INXS’s greatest hits album by a mere 21 copies. Puddinghead was Feature Album on triple j and named Homegrown Album of the Week on commercial radio station Triple M. The album received 3 songs in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2014, #2 on Triple J Listener’s top Albums of 2014 and #9 Most Streamed Album in Australia.

The positive reaction to Ball Park Music’s indie hits have fuelled numerous tours, with each national run surpassing the last in venue size and fan reaction. The band regularly appears on the Australian festival circuit, including performances at Falls Festival, Groovin The Moo and Splendour in the Grass.

2015 has been a year of international touring for Ball Park Music, with several showcases at SXSW Austin Texas and an European tour. They have new material due for release in 2016.
